Magnetic silica beads coated with streptavidin efficiently bind to biotinylated molecules, such as peptides, proteins, antibodies, sugars, and lectins. These beads are suitable for many applications based on the strong Streptavidin-Biotin, including purification of proteins and peptides or nucleic acids, immunoprecipitation, immunoassays, protein interaction studies, phage display, and cell isolation. They are particularly useful as a solid support phase in immunoassays. Magnetic beads have quick washing steps, shortened incubation time, and easy implementation into automated processes.

Binding of molecules onto Magnetic Silica Beads coated with streptavidin is based on the strong non-covalent interaction between streptavidin and biotin (Ka = 1015 M-1). These beads are coated with recombinant streptavidin (53 kDa) with shortened N- and C-terminus for improved solubility and accessibility of the sites. Albumin binding sites are eliminated for optimal specificity.
